Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

Tax credits can lower your tax bill dollar for dollar. There are 44 days from today (November 17, 2009) to get a tax credit for 2009.

If you are considering replacing your air conditioning by spring of next year consider moving the schedule up to 2009 so you can get the tax credit for 2009. There is 15% of cost to replace tax credit up to $1500.00 of qualified air conditioning equipment or a total 15% tax credit for a geothermal air conditioning system. Here in Jacksonville the preferred air conditioning system is an electrical heat pump. Hence, $1500.00 tax credit is the max for most units.

Upgrading your air conditioning to qualified tax credit equipment makes cents because you get tax credit and you also will save up 30% on your electric bill.

Fortunately, if you can delay your replacement unit until late 2010 the tax credit will still be available for the 2010 tax year.

The 2009 stimulus package includes a tax credit for air conditioning home improvements up to $1500.00.  To qualify the unit must be installed and placed in service in 2009 and the credit can be claimed by the 4/15/2010 deadline for the 2009 tax return.  Geothermal qualified equipment does not have an upper limit and is 30% of the quailified equipment cost.   The typical installation here in Jacksonville Fl is for installation of a 15 Seer or higher Heat pump system with a EER rating of 12.5 and a HSPF rating of 8.5.  This type of system qualifies for a 30% tax credit up to $1500.00.   This  installation must be for the primary residense.  Contact us at 904 714-3857.
